Joel and Ethan Coen are looking to remake another film (they just did TRUE GRIT) in the form of GAMBIT which is a film originally made in 1966 starring Michael Caine and Shirley Maclaine. Colin Firth is in negotiations to come on board this drama/heist film. The story follows a man who is trying to pull off a robbery using a lady as the “gambit” because she looks like the dead wife of the billionaire he’s trying to steal from. In the original film, the entire planning of the heist took place in a dream sequence but doesn’t turn out quite right in real life. Michael Hoffman is set to direct the remake but no word on when production will start.
Look for Colin Firth this awards season as his turn in THE KING’S SPEECH was awesome. This is another performance you’re going to want to catch before tuning in to the red carpet on Oscar night.
