Christopher Nolan denies being involved in a Justice League film

Though it was a nice thought and would have been an awesome film, director Christopher Nolan has firmly stated that he will not be involved in an upcoming JUSTICE LEAGUE film as he is officially done with the Batman character. With the recent success of the superhero genre, specifically THE AVENGERS (see our THE AVENGERS review), it was only natural to assume that a decent JUSTICE LEAGUE film would be the next step. With characters who have had their own successful solo films (Superman, Batman and Green Lantern), the only hero left to add would have been Wonder Woman. Since Christopher Nolan is a producer on the upcoming MAN OF STEEL, it had been speculated that he may take on a JUSTICE LEAGUE film. Sadly not so.

Christopher Nolan says, “We’re finished with all we’re doing with Batman. This is the end of our take on this character… Batman will outlive us all, and our interpretation was ours. Obviously, we consider it definitive and kind of finished. The great thing about Batman is he lives on for future generations to reinterpret, and obviously, Warners will have to decide in the future what they’re going to do with him. We’ve had our say on the character. … I’ve got no plans to do anything more, and certainly, no involvement with any JUSTICE LEAGUE project.” It’s a bummer but completely understandable. When you’ve put so much into a character like Batman I’m sure there comes a point where you just want to walk away.

So that leaves a JUSTICE LEAGUE film up in the air, hopefully we’ll see one someday with a director half as good as Christopher Nolan behind the lens. Christopher Nolan’s third and final Batman film THE DARK KNIGHT RISES, which stars Christian Bale, Tom Hardy and Anne Hathaway, hits theaters on July 20th, 2012.  (EW)
