MGM Home Entertainment and 20th Century Fox has announced that the 1986 Vietnam war film PLATOON, starring Charlie Sheen, Johnny Depp, Forest Whittaker, Tom Berenger and Willem Dafoe, will be released in a BD/DVD combo pack on May 24, 2011. This Oliver Stone directed film follows a young soldier who has to deal with the trials and tribulations of the Vietnam war. PLATOON is highly acclaimed and won four Academy Awards including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Sound and Best Film Editing. This is a film that should probably be in ever film fan’s collection.
One of the things I adore about revisiting films from the 80’s and early 90’s is seeing actors who had bit parts but are mega superstars right now. I’ve actually only seen PLATOON once or twice, but it’s really crawling with some great talent that I can appreciate more now than I did when I originally viewed the film.
