So far, GOTTI: IN THE SHADOW OF MY FATHER feels like a direct to DVD kind of film. John Travolta, Al Pacino and Kelly Preston may be in the cast but I’m still leery.
Ben Foster who also serves as a producer on the film has now signed on to play John Gotti Jr. The story will follow the young son of Gotti Sr. played by Travolta and delve into the relationship between the two. Barry Levinson (TOYS, SLEEPERS) serves as both screenwriter and director on this project.
I still have high hopes for Ben Foster. Sure, he’s been in several films but his talent has never been fully used in my opinion. Foster transformed from that dorky kid on the Disney Channel’s FLASH FORWARD to Russell in SIX FEET UNDER. Talk about a major change. The last great performance from him was in 2009’s THE MESSENGER. I’m also happy to see that he got a part in PROMETHEUS. Here’s hoping Foster finds roles tailored for him.
