Can you believe it has been almost four months since we’ve seen Jessica Chastain in a movie? It sounds crazy, but it’s true. The busiest actress in Hollywood actually doesn’t have anything coming up for a while unless they finally update the release date for THE DISAPPEARANCE OF ELEANOR RIGBY. I assume that will come out some time this year, but if not, then all of you Jessica Chastain fans will have to pin your hopes on the currently filming adaptation of MISS JULIE. The first images from the film have been released and given the heavy subject matter and historical setting, it’s likely this will hit during awards season.
The film stars Jessica Chastain, Colin Farrell and Samantha Morton. Liv Ullman is directing, who hasn’t directed anything since FAITHLESS back in 2000, although she has acted in some movies, including TWO LIVES most recently. The images above and below don’t tell us much, but as with most period films, I’m guessing there’s a lot of uncomfortable clothing and repressed feelings and emotions.
The official synopsis of the original Miss Julie play by August Strindberg: One of the greatest classics of modern theater — the fateful drama of a willful young aristocrat’s seduction of her father’s valet during a Midsummer’s Eve celebration. Inspired by the new ideas of naturalism and psychology that swept Europe in the late 19th century, the play is reprinted here complete with Strindberg’s critical preface.
