Jon Favreau to direct Magic Kingdom

Posted by: Kristy Sturdivant

Jon Favreau has teamed up with Disney Studios to make a film entitled MAGIC KINGDOM. The film will take place in Walt Disney’s Magic Kingdom, where iconic characters and rides come to life. The film will be something along the lines of the NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM franchise but with Disney characters.  Disney, of course, is doing this because of the success of their films that have been based on theme park rides. Aside from the fourth installment in the pirates franchise (PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: ON STRANGER TIDES), there are also films in the works called THE HAUNTED MANSION (not the one with Eddie Murphy, this one has Guillermo del Toro attached), TOMORROWLAND and JUNGLE CRUISE.  No word yet on when production will start, but since Disney has so many rules when it comes to their image expect this to take a couple of years.

I’m torn, on one hand I love Disney and would love to see what they could do with this concept.  On the other hand, I remember the 2003 movie THE HAUNTED MANSION and that was so bad I’ve repressed it from my memory.  We’re just gonna have to wait and see how this thing plays out, I guess.
