I imagine when Peter Berg was trying to get executives excited for BATTLESHIP, there were a ton of people in the room and around him that tried to let him know it wasn’t a good idea. But if there’s one bright spot from that film, it’s that Universal agreed to get behind the Navy Seal film LONE SURVIVOR. The film is based on the book of the same name from former Navy Seal Marcus Luttrel, who recounts an incident in 2005 where his team was hunting a known terrorist when they were ambushed by 250 Taliban soldiers. A key point in the film occurs when he and his team encounter three kids that they choose to let go, only to suspect them of telling the terrorists of their position.
Mark Wahlberg will be playing Luttrell and will be reuniting with his CONTRABAND co-star Ben Foster. Berg will also have a reunion with his BATTLESHIP star Taylor Kitsch. I’ve complained about how horrible BATTLESHIP looks on numerous occasions and I can’t say I’m a fan of Berg’s direction, but I do like this story and I hope he can pull it off.
