What happened to Christian Slater? He always seemed like a pretty cool leading man but maybe that only worked as a young guy like in TRUE ROMANCE, YOUNG GUNS II and GLEAMING THE CUBE. I guess as an older guy his appeal is a little lost. He had a television series called The Forgotten last year, which was exactly that after being canceled. But he does seem to continue to work in smaller films and is getting work again in PLAYBACK. Granted it’s some independent horror thriller that will probably not be seen by many people, but you never know. It could be ok and lead to more stuff.
PLAYBACK is about some high school students who discover an evil history about their town that begins to prey upon their classmates. Slater will play the town’s sinister cop. The description doesn’t sound like anything original. Michael A. Nickles is directing from his own script. The film will also star Johnny Pacar, Toby Hemingway, Jonathan Keltz, Alessandra Torresani, Ambyr Childers and Daryl “Chill” Mitchell.
