The upcoming robot boxing film REAL STEEL has taken me on a roller coaster of anticipation. At first, I wasn’t interested in the film at all. The story didn’t sound appealing and I wasn’t sure they’d be able to pull off a boxing movie by using robots. Then they added some cast members, including, Kevin Durand, Anthony Mackie and Evangeline Lilly to go along with the already headlining Hugh Jackman. At that point, I gained some more interest in the film, but still wasn’t sold. Then I learned that the short story was actually turned into a ‘Twilight Zone’ episode and I perked up even more.
Today we learn that Hope Davis, James Rebhorn and Olga Fonda are joining the cast and although none of them can make a movie for me, I like that director Shawn Levy is bringing in talented actors. I think this film is going to weigh more heavily on the actors performances than the special effects. The film is about an ex-fighter turned promoter that manages robot boxers after boxing is deemed too violent for humans.
