Chris Columbus to adapt The Help

Posted by: Kristy Sturdivant

Chris Columbus will produce a film based on the best-selling novel ‘The Help’ by Kathryn Stockett.  The book is about African-American servants and the white employers they work for set in Mississippi in 1962. The film was written and will be directed by Tate Taylor, who directed the 2008 film PRETTY UGLY PEOPLE.  The novel was on the New York Times bestseller list for 35 weeks and was reportedly optioned for a film before it hit the shelves.

I’m not a huge fan of Chris Columbus and it seems that this film is not really his style, as he leans more towards producing kids films or action movies.  It’ll be interesting to see how he turns out a serious drama like this one.
