In the trailer for GET HIM TO THE GREEK, Russell Brand plays a wild rock star while Jonah Hill plays a timid, geeky music assistant. You might remember that Brand played a rock star in FORGETTING SARAH MARSHALL and Hill played a timid, geeky high school student in SUPERBAD and you might be thinking; aren’t these basically the same characters, just a few years older? And if that’s what you think, you’re right. I’m not saying that it doesn’t work, because the trailer looks pretty good, but you won’t see anything here you haven’t seen before. Sean ‘P. Diddy’ Combs, Katy Perry, Aziz Ansari, Pink, and several other musicians star in the film by Nicholas Stoller.
To be fair, Russell’s character actually is the same character he played in FORGETTING SARAH MARSHALL, so it’s kind of a spin-off. But I don’t remember him being so wacky in Marshall. And I’m also not sure Brand is going to be able to make it full time in that character without driving me crazy. Greek hits theaters on June 4th.
