Natalie Portman joins Michael Fassbender in MacBeth

Natalie Portman

Yesterday, we found out that the great Michael Fassbender agreed to play the title character in Shakespeare’s MACBETH.  Today Fassbender gets his Lady MacBeth in Academy Award winner Natalie Portman. Both recently finished shooting together in an untitled Terrence Malick (THE TREE OF LIFE, TO THE WONDER) film.  Since it’s Terrence Malick, one or both of them could potentially be cut out as well. They both can be seen in their own upcoming superhero projects. Michael Fassbender has X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST, while Natalie Portman has THOR: THE DARK WORLD to come out later this year. With these two super stars added to the project, I’ll be curious to see who jumps in as the supporting characters, particularly the three witches.

Apparently, Natalie Portman has been wanting the role for quite some time, even looking at stage productions of the famous William Shakespeare play.  There seems to be some sort of a Shakespeare adaptation that comes out nearly every year, so wait and ye shall receive.  I’m fan of both actors, beginning with Fassbender in INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS and Natalie Portman in LEON: THE PROFESSIONAL.  I always believed if I were to ever meet Natalie Portman, we would have dynamite chemistry.  My infatuation borders on unhealthy but my wife keeps me in check.

If you are unfamiliar with MACBETH, it follows a ruthless Scottish lord who with the help of his cunning wife and three witches overtakes the throne.  It sounds like the film will be a bit more violent but not sure if it will stick to the 11 century vernacular.  So far MACBETH will star Natalie Portman and Michael Fassbender.  It will be produced by Iain Canning and Emile Sherman with Jacob Koskoff and Todd Louiso adapting the Shakespeare play to a screenplay.  MACBETH will be directed by relatively newbie Justin Kurzell and set to start shooting later in 2013.
