Good ole’ MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE, a Tom Cruise staple that I don’t think ever disappoints. Sure some are not as good as others and the stunts can be pretty silly. But the fact is, no matter how ridiculous the story line may get, there are always some gnarly action sequences, incredible practical effects, and a consistently daring Tom Cruise putting his life in danger for a high-risk, life endangering stunt that my man does simply because he loves movies. And for that reason, All MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE movies are worth the price of admission. MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE – THE FINAL RECKONING definitely gets a little more ridiculous and silly, but as I said before, it’s totally worth it.
If you remember, MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE – DEAD RECKONING was PART 1, and MISSION IMPOSSIBLE – THE FINAL RECKONING continues the story of Ethan Hunt and the IMF pursuing a dangerous AI called the Entity that’s infiltrated global intelligence. With governments and a figure from his past in pursuit, Hunt races to stop it from forever changing the world.
THE FINAL RECKONING is definitely a little more silly with Ethan Hunt basically becoming the savior of the world. However, the action sequence at the end of the film with Ethan fighting his way onto a small biplane is absolute hair-raising. Actually, it’s hair flattening, since Tom Cruise is literally hanging from the wing of a plane with the wind pushing his full head of hair flat against his skull.
MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE: THE FINAL RECKONING might be a weaker entry to the franchise by comparison, but it’s still incredible action, entertaining story-telling, and one of the most charismatic actors in history.
