Daniel Craig, Bill Murray and Cate Blanchett set for George Clooney's Monuments Men

Daniel Craig

It seems odd to go an entire Oscar season and not talk about George Clooney, but after seeing success last year with THE DESCENDANTS, Clooney took some time off and didn’t have a movie released in 2012.  But for 2013, he has GRAVITY, which should hit some time in the fall and now he’s lining up his next directorial effort, MONUMENTS MEN.  We told you about Clooney’s involvement with this in January, but now it looks like he’s assembled one heck of a cast that includes Daniel Craig, Bill Murray, Cate Blanchett, Jean Dujardin, John Goodman, Hugh Bonneville and Bob Balaban.

The film follows a group of people in World War II that attempt to save key pieces of art from being destroyed towards the end of Hitler’s regime.  George Clooney will not only direct the film, he also co-wrote the script and will be starring in the film as well.  As great as he is as James Bond, Daniel Craig has had trouble finding success outside of his most famous character.  Teaming with a cast and director like this is a good choice.  Filming is set to start in March, which might make it tough to be released by the end of 2013 (although I’m sure they’ll try).  If they don’t make it, we may have to wait for it to hit the festival circuit in 2014.
