Jenna Fischer, Topher Grace and Malin Akerman star in The Giant Mechanical Man trailer

Jenna Fischer and Chris Messina in The Giant Mechanical Man

Maybe it was her adorable portrayal of Pam Beesly on ‘The Office’, but I can’t help but love Jenna Fischer.  She’s had mixed results with her attempts to jump to the silver screen and as yet to find that film that will showcase her leading lady capability.  Jenna Fischer starred in A LITTLE HELP and did a fine job, but the movie fell a little flat.  Then she had a smaller part in HALL PASS and although she did fine with what she had, the movie wasn’t really didn’t belong to Jenna Fischer and therefore her character could have been played by anyone.  But next up for Jenna Fischer is indie romantic comedy-drama, THE GIANT MECHANICAL MAN.  And it looks like she’s playing a character more in line with Pam Beesly than anything.

The film is about a woman (Jenna Fischer) that loses her job and feels overly lost in the world and ends up taking a new job working at a zoo.  That’s where she meets a street performer whose bit is to play a giant mechanical man.  She starts to fall for him, but her overbearing sister continues to try and set her up with an obnoxious motivational speaker.  Chris Messina (‘Damages’) will play the street performer, Malin Akerman will play the sister and Topher Grace will play the motivational speaker.  Lucy Punch, Bob Odenkirk, Rich Sommer and Travis Schuldt will also be joining Jenna Fischer in the film.

THE GIANT MECHANICAL MAN is written and directed by Lee Kirk, who is making his directorial debut.  On a side note, Lee Kirk had a small guest spot on ‘The Office’ with Jenna Fischer, which goes to show you never know who’s going to make it in Hollywood.  There’s no official word on when the film will hit theaters, but it should come out some time in 2012.  Watch the trailer below.
