Julia Roberts, Alec Baldwin, Jim Parsons and Matt Bomer sign on for The Normal Heart

Julia Roberts, Alec Bladwin, Jim Parsons, and Matt Bomer

We first reported that Mark Ruffalo had signed on to star in Ryan Murphy’s drama THE NORMAL HEART way back in August, 2010, but nothing became of the project and so it seemed like it would fall apart until Brad Pitt’s Plan B Productions picked it up last September.  Well, now the AIDS drama based on the Tony Award winning play got a big boost after two big-name stars and two recognizable faces signed on to star in the drama.  Julia Roberts, Alec Baldwin, Jim Parsons (TV’s ‘The Big Bang Theory’) and Matt Bomer (TV’s ‘White Collar’) will be joining the still attached Mark Ruffalo in the film.

The story is a semi-biographical look at AIDS activist Ned Weeks (Mark Ruffalo) and his struggles to bring the disease to the forefront in the 80’s. Roberts will play the wheelchair bound doctor Emma Brookner, who supports Weeks.  Bomer will play Felix Turner, who was Weeks’ boyfriend that contacts the disease.  Baldwin will play Weeks’ lawyer brother and Parsons will star as a Southern gay rights activist (whom he also played on Broadway).
Murphy now has one heck of a cast, so let’s hope he can do better than EAT, PRAY, LOVE.  There’s no start date yet, but with most of the cast falling into place, it should get underway soon.
