Marvel announces films for Black Panther, Captain Marvel and others, plus more Avengers!
Are you excited yet? After decades of superheroes being overlooked at the theater, the floodgates have officially opened and they’re not going to close any time soon. Today was a big day in the Marvel Universe as the studio has pulled back the curtain on their future plans and have revealed sequels and new standalone films all the way through 2019, which you can see below. The other big news is that Chadwick Boseman has been cast as Black Panther and he’ll be leading the solo film coming in 2017 and word has it that he’ll also be a major player in Captain America 3, which is now called CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR. Marvel confirmed Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange, with his movie coming in 2016 and they’ve announced Captain Marvel will be the first female led superhero film in the Marvel Universe, coming in 2018. No casting yet for Captain Marvel and Marvel President Kevin Feige stated that they wanted to find a director first. Also of note is that Captain America and Thor get sequels, but Iron Man does not and Hulk doesn’t get a solo film yet.
But what may be the biggest news is the two part Avengers film coming in 2018 and 2019, titled AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR. If you’ll recall, DC did a similar thing with their Justice League film, so it’s interesting Marvel followed suit. But I can only assume that Infinity War will be the ushering in of new superheroes while Marvel starts getting rid of the current group of Avengers. We already know the team won’t look the same at the end of AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON. So what do you think about the new Marvel slate? Is it overkill, or a brilliant plan from Marvel?
