Oscar Isaac and Jessica Chastain star in A Most Violent Year trailer

It’s only a matter of time before Oscar Isaac becomes a household name. He blew me away in INSIDE LLEWYN DAVIS, but unfortunately, most people didn’t see it. However, everyone is going to see STAR WARS: EPISODE VII, and although we don’t know what kind of role he’ll have in it, everyone involved with the film will be known next December. But in the meantime, he has the Oscar bait, A MOST VIOLENT YEAR. And when you’re gunning for an Oscar, who better to star with than the hardest working in show business, Jessica Chastain? If the cast and the subject matter aren’t enough to get you in the theater, then know that it’s directed by J.C. Chandor, who directed MARGIN CALL and ALL IS LOST. The first trailer looks like heavy stuff, but it also looks pretty fascinating. Check it out below.

The official synopsis for A MOST VIOLENT YEAR: Set during the winter of 1981 — statistically one of the most crime-ridden of New York City’s history — A MOST VIOLENT YEAR is a drama following the lives of an immigrant and his family as they attempt to capitalize on the American Dream, while the rampant violence, decay, and corruption of the day drag them in and threaten to destroy all they have built. A MOST VIOLENT YEAR stars Oscar Isaac, Jessica Chastain, David Oyelowo, Alessandro Nivola, Albert Brooks and Catalina Sandino Moreno. The J.C. Chandor directed film hits theaters on December 31st.
