Brad Pitt no longer attached to The Lost City of Z

The Paramount Pictures upcoming film THE LOST CITY OF Z just lost a major actor in Brad Pitt.  Pitt backed out of the film and decided to begin negotiations to star in a film entitled COGAN’S TRADE which has been been described as a “mobster comedy”, and will be directed by Andrew Dominik who also directed Brad Pitt in the 2007 western THE ASSASSINATION OF JESSE JAMES BY THE COWARD ROBERT FORD.

THE LOST CITY OF Z is based on a novel written by David Grann (writer for The New Yorker) and is about the quest of Col. Percy Fawcett who led an expedition in 1925 to find the lost city of El Dorado.  Fawcett became obsessed with the idea of finding the city and went into the Amazon jungle only to disappear without a trace. No word on where THE LOST CITY OF Z is in the production process. It would be a pretty major blow to lose an actor like Brad Pitt on your film.  Hopefully they’ll be able to find a decent replacement because the story sounds like it would translate into a great film.
