Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has announced that the fairy tale adaptation BEASTLY, starring Alex Pettyfer, Vanessa Hudgens, Mary-Kate Olsen, Neil Patrick Harris and Lisa Gay Hamilton, will be released on Blu-ray June 28, 2011. The story follows Kyle (Pettyfer) a selfish, shallow and egotistical high school student who is cursed by another (Olsen) and turned into a hideous creature. Like the classic tale of Beauty and the Beast, Kyle must find true love by revealing how lovely he is on the inside even though he’s not-so-attractive on the outside. The film didn’t do so well at theaters, only bringing in just under $28 million and most people found it to be a bit disappointing.
This film will most likely go down as being Alex Pettyfer’s second chance to woo audiences and secure his rising star status, of which he pretty much failed. After this opened at the box office most of his other deals fell to the wayside and any news about potential roles have been scarce. Special features will include: an alternate ending, deleted scenes, a couple of featurettes, a music video and more.
