True Blood's Alexander Skarsgard to star in What Maisie Knew with Julianne Moore and Steve Coogan

After battling aliens and other vessels in next summer’s BATTLESHIP, Alexander Skarsgard is going to flex his drama muscle and star in WHAT MAISIE KNEW with Julianne Moore and British comedian Steve Coogan. The film is going to be a contemporary retelling of the novel of the same name by Henry James, which was written in 1897. The novel follows a young woman that watches her parents get divorced, date and then fall in love with new people. I had never heard of the book until now, but I find that premise interesting for a book written in the late 1800’s, but the story is kind of commonplace these days. Moore will play the mother, Coogan the father and Skarsgard will play the mother’s younger second husband. The other key roles have not been cast.
Scott McGehee and David Siegel will be directing the film, who previously did THE DEEP END and BEE SEASON. No word on when filming will start.
