A plot synopsis is finally revealed for Zack Snyder's Man of Steel

There’s not been much offered as a plot for Zack Snyder’s MAN OF STEEL. Is it an origin story or will it just drop us in the middle of Metropolis?

According to a casting call for the film, this is what we have to look forward to:  In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time. Clark Kent/Kal-El (Cavill) is a young twentysomething journalist who feels alienated by powers beyond anyone’s imagination. Transported to Earth years ago from Krypton, an advanced alien planet, Clark struggles with the ultimate question – Why am I here? Shaped by the values of his adoptive parents Martha (Lane) and Jonathan Kent (Costner), Clark soon discovers that having super abilities means making very difficult decisions. But when the world needs stability the most, it comes under attack. Will his abilities be used to maintain peace or ultimately used to divide and conquer? Clark must become the hero known as “Superman,” not only to shine as the world’s last beacon of hope but to protect the ones he loves.

So it’s not exactly a full on origin story. It would if the growth of Kal-El was shown in the movie from when he first came to Earth. In this story, he’s in his twenties as Brandon Routh was in SUPERMAN RETURNS. Then again, it does say that Clark discovers his powers here and ultimately struggles with what to do with them. I’m not sure if we really need to retread on all of Kal-El/Clark’s history. If they were going to do a “coming into his powers” story, then they should have just went full on Smallville.
