The Dark Knight Rises footage will officially show in front of Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol, but only in 70mm IMAX theaters

So the good news is that the rumor we learned about earlier, in which 6 minutes of footage from THE DARK KNIGHT RISES would be previewing in front of MISSION IMPOSSIBLE: GHOST PROTOCOL, is actually true.  AMC Theaters confirmed as much today.  The bad news (or good news, depending on your thoughts) is that the footage will only show in the classic IMAX theaters that are capable of showing 70mm prints.  So before you run out to see MI4 (although you should anyway) only to see the Bat footage, make sure you do your research and confirm your theater has the capability to show 70mm prints.

On one hand, I love that Nolan is doing this because it brings the issue of sorry digital IMAX theaters to light.  I get so frustrated when I pay more to see a movie in an “IMAX” screen that’s the same size as every other screen.  But on the other hand, the fact remains that the old screens are hard to find and therefore, the Bat footage won’t be seen by everyone.

THE DARK KNIGHT RISES stars Christian Bale, Anne Hathaway, Tom Hardy, Michael Caine, Gary Oldman,Morgan Freeman, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Marion Cotillard and Juno Temple.  This is the third and final Batman film for director Christopher Nolan and it opens in theaters on July 20th, 2012.
