Kenny Wormald and Julianne Hough in the first poster and trailer for the Footloose remake

Posted by: Brad Sturdivant

No, no, no, no, no.  I can’t believe how bad this trailer is.  When it was first announced that they were moving forward with a remake to the 1984 film FOOTLOOSE, we all knew it was a horrible idea, but I had no inclination that it would be this bad.  I think what I’m most frustrated by is how they hardly changed anything and only made a few modifications to the original…with a few noticeable exceptions.  For example, remember the scene when Ariel dances outside at the diner with her boyfriend?  Well, now Ariel and everyone at the diner break out into YOU GOT SERVED style dancing.  You know, because that happens these days.

Also, one thing to keep in mind about the original FOOTLOOSE is that it was a bad movie.  I like it because I grew up watching it, but even I have to admit that it’s a bad film.  So doing a virtual shot for shot remake is not the right way to go.  And what’s going on with the music in this remake?  I didn’t hear any good, original songs.  Are they going to add those in later and hope the dancing matches up?  And how old is Julianne Hough?  She’s technically 23, but she looks 35.  The woman has a lot of miles on her to still be trying to pass for a high school kid.

Anyway, check out the poster and take a look at the trailer below and hopefully it won’t ruin your whole morning like it did to me.  The film stars Kenny Wormald (I don’t know), Julianne Hough, Dennis Quaid and Andie McDowell.  All your hate mail should go to director Kenny Ortega after the film opens on October 14th. Note: I’ll update with an HD trailer as soon as one is available.

UPDATE: As promised, updated with the HD Footloose trailer
