Jennifer Garner, Hugh Jackman and Olivia Wilde star in the Butter trailer

One of the promotional photos that stands out most this year is the shot of Jennifer Garner carving a car out of butter. For whatever reason this writer found that image completely absurd yet intriguing. Who ever thought to make a film surrounding the politics of butter sculpting? That would be screenwriter Jason A. Micallef and director Jim Field Smith. In their film BUTTER, we follow Laura Pickler (Jennifer Garner) who is the perfect housewife married to a supposed great guy (Ty Burrell), but they just happen to be sculptors of butter. When Laura tries to take the butter carving championship from her husband, she is thwarted by a young adopted girl (Yara Shahidi) who has a natural gift of carving the fatty substance. There’s an underlying political story in BUTTER as well, but who really cares about that when people are getting so riled up over 200 lbs. of lard?
