Dwayne Johnson is set to star in San Andreas

Dwayne Johnson

With all of the Grand Theft Auto V hype going on right now, you might get really excited that Dwayne Johnson is starring in a film adaptation of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.  Remember the Playstation 2?  That seems like a long time ago.  But if you were hoping for a Grand Theft Auto adaptation, prepare to have your dreams crushed because SAN ANDREAS is not based on the popular video game, but instead it’s going to be an earthquake disaster film.  Dwayne Johnson has battled plenty of bad guys over the years, but now he has to take on mother nature in the film.  According to THR, “the script is set after a devastating earthquake hits California and centers on a man making a perilous trip across the state to rescue his estranged daughter. Johnson will play that man, described as a rugged rescue helicopter pilot.”

Yeah, that sounds like a Dwayne Johnson movie.  The bad news is that so far, there have been four screenwriters that have had a shot at the script, starting with Andre Fabrizio and Jeremy Passmore and then getting passed to Chad and Carey Hayes.  That’s never a good sign, but if any genre can handle so many cooks in the kitchen, it’s an action-disaster film.  Filming starts early next year with a 2015 release date.
