Brad Pitt, Ryan Gosling and Christian Bale star in the first Big Short trailer

I’m not sure anyone knew this one was coming, at least not so soon.  It seems BIG SHORT was just recently announced and billed as a TRAFFIC-esque film focusing on the housing crisis.  It features a dream team of sorts with a-list stars Brad Pitt, Ryan Gosling and Christian Bale taking the leads, along with A-list funnyman Steve Carell.  The only question mark was that it was directed by Adam McKay, who is most known for his comedy work and not his interweaving of dramatic stories.  But production flew along and Paramount is so happy with the final product that they’re releasing it this Christmas, almost a year ahead of when most of us thought it would be released.  When studios push movies out, that’s usually a bad sign, but when they pull them forward, that’s usually a great sign (see Paramount’s most recent example, MISSION IMPOSSIBLE – ROGUE NATION).  Check out the first trailer for BIG SHORT below.

The official BIG SHORT synopsis: When four outsiders saw what the big banks, media and government refused to, the global collapse of the economy, they had an idea:  The Big Short. Their bold investment leads them into the dark underbelly of modern banking where they must question everyone and everything.  Based on the true story and best-selling book by Michael Lewis (The Blind Side, Moneyball),  and directed by Adam Mckay (Anchorman, Step Brothers) The Big Short stars Christian Bale, Steve Carell, Ryan Gosling and Brad Pitt.  BIG SHORT hits limited theaters on December 11th and everywhere on December 23rd.
