Joaquin Phoenix and Maya Rudolph in first set photos of Inherent Vice

Paul Thomas Anderson’s INHERENT VICE has finally started shooting, which in turn has treated us to a couple of set photos featuring Joaquin Phoenix and Maya Rudolph in costume. I wasn’t even aware Maya Rudolph was in the film but being married to the director, it only makes sense that the talented SNL alum would have a part somewhere. I’ve said this before but I’m excited to see Anderson get back to another large ensemble movie in the vain of MAGNOLIA. Directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, INHERENT VICE currently will star Joaquin Phoenix, Josh Brolin, Reese Witherspoon, Owen Wilson, Benicio Del Toro, Martin Short, Katherine Waterston, Jena Malone, Maya Rudolph, and Kevin J. Anderson. Sean Penn is also still rumored to be circling the project. (The Playlist)

It’s been a while since Doc Sportello has seen his ex- girlfriend. Suddenly she shows up with a story about a plot to kidnap a billionaire land developer whom she just happens to be in love with. It’s the tail end of the psychedelic sixties in L.A., and Doc knows that “love” is another of those words going around at the moment, like “trip” or “groovy,” except that this one usually leads to trouble. Undeniably one of the most influential writers at work today, Pynchon has penned another unforgettable book.
