Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon star in new images from Inherent Vice

While most of us are excited for Paul Thomas Anderson’s next film, INHERENT VICE, none of us are completely sure what to expect. We’re in the dark a little bit mainly because we haven’t seen a trailer yet. So while we wait for the inevitable trailer to hit online, we have two new images from the film, featuring Joaquin Phoenix with co-stars Reese Witherspoon and Benicio Del Toro. Although I haven’t read it, I’ve heard nothing but good things about Pynchon’s novel. Paul Thomas Anderson did say in a recent interview that he changed the ending in the movie compared to what’s in the novel, but he did so closely with Pynchon, so no one should be worried. Plus, I think Paul Thomas Anderson has enough credit as a writer and a director that we should trust in what he does.

The official synopsis of INHERENT VICE: Based on the novel by Thomas Pynchon and directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, Inherent Vice follows the crazy story of private eye Doc Sportello. When his ex-old lady suddenly out of nowhere shows up with a story about her current billionaire land developer boyfriend whom she just happens to be in love with, and a plot by his wife and her boyfriend to kidnap that billionaire and throw him in a loony bin… well, easy for her to say. INHERENT VICE stars Joaquin Phoenix, Josh Brolin, Owen Wilson, Katherine Waterston, Reese Witherspoon, Benicio Del Toro, Martin Short and Jena Malone. The Paul Thomas Anderson directed film hits theaters on January 9th, with a limited December release to make it eligible for Oscars.
