Joss Whedon turned down Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot

Last week the internet (myself included) was up in arms because we found out that Warner Bros was going to be doing a reboot of BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER.  Even though most people are still bummed (me included) we are learning today that Joss Whedon was approached to take part in this reboot last year but turned it down to pursue other projects.  This is a bit of a revelation for fans who thought that his best character and series was going to be pulled out from under him, but apparently that was just not the case.  In his response to the Buffy reboot, Joss said he had, “strong, mixed emotions about something like this” alluding to the fact that he wasn’t happy with the situation although now, from what it sounds like, he could have done the entire reboot his way.

As a hardcore Buffy fan I’m still not happy with the idea of a reboot, but I don’t blame Joss for not wanting to revisit a character that he spent a better part of a decade with.  I’m going to be a bigger person and give Whit Anderson a shot at the franchise and just hope that she doesn’t do anything too crazy.
