Kevin Costner drops out of Quentin Tarantino's Django Unchained

We don’t have a lot of information on this news but it is definitely a letdown.

It looks like Kevin Costner has backed out of starring in Quentin Tarantino’s DJANGO UNCHAINED. What was the reason given? Scheduling conflicts. There is no official word from the actor himself but the news came from a Variety staffer so I’m pretty inclined to believe it.

Is the drop really due to scheduling conflicts though? Or was Costner scared away by the intense subject matter of the film? Costner was to play Ace Woody, a man who worked for the central villain of the film, slave owner Calvin Candle (Leonardo DiCaprio). Woody’s character is said to train slaves to fight one another in a “sport” that Candle loves to watch. I can see that maybe being a little much for Costner at his age.

On the scheduling side, right now Costner is filming MAN OF STEEL then will move on to the History Channel mini-series, HATFIELDS & MCCOYS. Other than that, I haven’t heard of Costner being attached to anything more. It’s really too bad he won’t be taking on the role.
