Mel Gibson looking at Sleight of Hand

Posted by: Brad Sturdivant

As the praise continues to rack up for Mel Gibson’s performance in THE BEAVER, the actor should be able to put his off-screen past behind him and get back to making quality films.  I’m not sure a comedy heist movie is the best route to take, but nonetheless, Gibson looks set to join SLEIGHT OF HAND from writer/director Brad Mirman.  The cast is already pretty stacked and includes Kiefer Sutherland, Gerard Depardieu, Til Schweiger, Thomas Jane, Jon Lovitz and Eric Cantona.

The film is about a gang of small time crooks that mistakenly end up with a rare coin that happens to belong to a ruthless French gangster.  They then enlist the help of a retired thief (Depardieu) to help them raise money to repay the gangster.  Sounds somewhat similar to other movies we’ve seen, but hopefully Mirman can craft something that utilizes the talents of everyone involved.
