Pacific Rim finally has a trailer that will get you excited

Pacific Rim trailer

Maybe Michael Bay killed the mystique of the giant robot on robot action, but I’ve found myself curiously unimpressed with anything I’ve seen from Guillermo del Toro’s PACIFIC RIM. If I had never seen a CGI spectacle featuring robots beating up other robots, then maybe I’d be more stoked for PACIFIC RIM, but since we’ve had three such movies, I just can’t get excited. But the fact that Guillermo del Toro is directing, along with the inspired casting (mainly Charlie Day) will get me in the theater and this latest trailer finally shows us some excitement and intensity that was lacking in previous trailers. Check it out below and decide for yourself if this will be a great summer thrill ride or if it will feel too familiar.

PACIFIC RIM official synopsis: When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity’s resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes—a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi)—who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.

PACIFIC RIM stars: Charlie Hunnam, Idris Elba, Ron Perlman, Charlie Day, Clifton Collins Jr., Rinko Kikuchi, Robert Maillet and Burn Gorman. The Guillermo del Toro science fiction film will hit 3D, 2D and IMAX theaters on July 12.
