Reese Witherspoon joins Owen Wilson and Joaquin Phoenix in Inherent Vice

Reese Witherspoon

When Reese Witherspoon isn’t yelling at State Troopers for pulling over her fiancee, she’s actually an actress.  Although her star was probably a little too bright to be pulled down by one off-screen incident, she knows that the best way to make people forget how crazy and obnoxious you are is to give them another great movie.  While he male counterparts would line up the first action movie that came their way, I would have thought she’d try to get a romantic comedy out there to appeal to her fans.  But no, Reese Witherspoon is eying one of the more exciting projects on the horizon and is set to reteam with her WALK THE LINE costar in Paul Thomas Anderson’s INHERENT VICE.  We don’t know who she’ll be playing just yet, but she joins a great cast that includes Joaquin Phoenix, Owen Wilson, Benicio Del Toro and Kevin J. Anderson.  Filming on the project should begin soon and I’m guessing this will be an awards contender when it’s finally released. (Deadline)

The official synopsis of Thomas Pynchon’s ‘Inherent Vice’: In this lively yarn, Thomas Pynchon, working in an unaccustomed genre that is at once exciting and accessible, provides a classic illustration of the principle that if you can remember the sixties, you weren’t there.  It’s been a while since Doc Sportello has seen his ex- girlfriend. Suddenly she shows up with a story about a plot to kidnap a billionaire land developer whom she just happens to be in love with. It’s the tail end of the psychedelic sixties in L.A., and Doc knows that “love” is another of those words going around at the moment, like “trip” or “groovy,” except that this one usually leads to trouble. Undeniably one of the most influential writers at work today, Pynchon has penned another unforgettable book.
