Sacha Baron Cohen delivers more crazy in new red band trailer for The Dictator

The red band trailer for THE DICTATOR has just been released and as much as I hate to admit it, I chuckled once or twice. Sacha Baron Cohen is one of those people who are really funny for about three minutes, but then he just gets really annoying. How Sacha Baron Cohen continues to make movies is beyond me, because it looks like he basically uses the same types of jokes in each film. I suppose there is an audience for it though. As for me, I’ll continue to take my Sacha Baron Cohen in three minute increments please- no more, no less.
THE DICTATOR follows a Middle Eastern dictator who visits America and loses his identity somewhere along the way, and of course embarrasses a bunch of people. I’m sure there are more details to that plot, but that’s all that I see when I watch these trailers. The film stars Sacha Baron Cohen, Megan Fox, Anna Faris, Ben Kingsley, John C. Reilly and B.J. Novak (from ‘The Office’). The film is once again directed by frequent Sacha Baron Cohen collaborator Larry Charles. THE DICTATOR hits theaters everywhere on May 11th, 2012.
It’s too bad Sacha Baron Cohen is pretty much only known for the movies he’s starred in, but he’s actually been pretty decent in other films. Sacha Baron Cohen has had decent roles in TALLADEGA NIGHTS: THE BALLAD OF RICKY BOBBY, SWEENEY TODD: THE DEMON BARBER OF FLEET STREET and last year’s HUGO. Sacha Baron Cohen will also be in Quentin Tarantino’s upcoming film DJANGO UNCHAINED, so he really can act when he wants to. I guess he just prefers to act like a goober who likes to put his characters in awkward situations. To me it’s a bit like those JACKASS films, but maybe just a half a step better.
