Taylor Kitsch, Liam Neeson and Rihanna star in the latest Battleship trailer

I’m guessing Taylor Kitsch is feeling a little uneasy right about now. His first big chance to carry a blockbuster was JOHN CARTER, which just came out at theaters to a very weak box office haul and even weaker reviews. But Taylor Kitsch only has a few months to recover before BATTLESHIP hits theaters and I’m not so sure the latest BATTLESHIP trailer helps. I’ve already griped about how horrible the film looks, but to be fair to Taylor Kitsch, it really has nothing to do with his performance. Unfortunately for him, he managed to pick two big budget movies that have little to no chance of making their money back, at least not during their theatrical runs. But the good news for Taylor Kitsch is that he’s still young, good looking and hopefully for his sake, rich.

Along with the new BATTLESHIP trailer, Universal released the synopsis: “Peter Berg (Hancock) produces and directs Battleship, an epic-scaled action-adventure that unfolds across the seas, in the skies and over land as our planet fights for survival against a superior force. Inspired by Hasbro’s classic naval combat game, Battleship stars Taylor Kitsch as Lt. Alex Hopper, a Naval officer assigned to the USS John Paul Jones; Brooklyn Decker as Sam Shane, a physical therapist and Hopper’s fiancée; Alexander Skarsgård as Hopper’s older brother, Stone, Commanding Officer of the USS Sampson; Rihanna as Petty Officer Raikes, Hopper’s crewmate and a weapons specialist on the USS John Paul Jones; and international superstar Liam Neeson as Hopper and Stone’s superior (and Sam’s father), Admiral Shane.”

And by now, you’ve made up your mind about the supernatural elements involved in the film. For me, I don’t care so much about the aliens as much as I care about how they’re using the board-game to try and sell tickets. I understand that Taylor Kitsch and Rihanna aren’t going to put people in theaters, but I don’t know why they had to reference the board-game.
