The King's Speech director Tom Hooper may take on Les Miserables

After THE KING’S SPEECH took home best director and best picture at the Academy Award this year, the smoke must be clearing because Tom Hooper is looking forward to his next project. It’s been reported that he is in talks to adapt the famous Broadway play LES MISERABLES and bring it to the big screen for Universal Pictures. The film follows an ex-convict named Jean Valjean and his road to redemption based on the novel by Victor Hugo. The play has previously been made into a film back in 1998, but didn’t really resonate with audiences and only brought in around $14 million at the box office. Maybe with Hooper’s vision it can be more successful.

As much as I love musicals I haven’t seen LES MISERABLES and am very unfamiliar with the story or songs (tragic, I know). However, after seeing how well THE KING’S SPEECH was made I will definitely check out this film if Tom Hooper is behind it.
