Tom Hanks stars in the first trailer for Steven Spielberg’s Bridge of Spies

I was a little concerned that Tom Hanks had maybe lost a step since his heyday in the mid 90’s, but after CAPTAIN PHILLIPS, I was reminded how incredible of an actor he can be in the right role.  Next up for Hanks is a reteaming with Steven Spielberg in the Cold War thriller BRIDGE OF SPIES.  The first trailer for the film looks like it has Hanks and Spielberg a the top of their game.  Given the talent involved, I don’t think there’s any question this one is a must-see, but in case you need more of a reason to check it out, remember that the screenplay was written by Ethan and Joel Coen.  Check out the first trailer below.

The official synopsis for BRIDGE OF SPIES: A dramatic thriller set against the backdrop of a series of historic events, DreamWorks Pictures/Fox 2000 Pictures’ “Bridge of Spies” tells the story of James Donovan, a Brooklyn lawyer who finds himself thrust into the center of the Cold War when the CIA sends him on the near-impossible task to negotiate the release of a captured American U-2 pilot. Screenwriters Matt Charman and Ethan Coen & Joel Coen have woven this remarkable experience in Donovan’s life into a story inspired by true events that captures the essence of a man who risked everything and vividly brings his personal journey to life.  BRIDGE OF SPIES stars Tom Hanks, Mark Rylance, Scott Shepherd, Amy Ryan, Sebastian Koch, Alan Alda, Billy Magnussen, Eve Hewson, Domenick Lombardozzi, along with James Caan and Ed Asner in smaller roles.  The Steven Spielberg directed film hits theaters on October 16th.
