Mission: Impossible-Ghost Protocol and Transformers: Dark of the Moon coming to IMAX theaters

IMAX Corporation and Paramount Studios agreed today to release four of their biggest 2011 films in the IMAX format.  Those films will include: MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE-GHOST PROTOCOL, TRANSFORMERS: DARK OF THE MOON, SUPER 8 and THE ADVENTURES OF TINTIN: THE SECRET OF THE UNICORN. None of these films will be pushed back and will still open on the day they were originally set for release. THE ADVENTURES OF TINTIN: THE SECRET OF THE UNICORN as well as TRANSFORMERS: DARK OF THE MOON will also be shot and released in 3D format.  Here is what the CEO of IMAX Richard L. Gelfond had to say about the partnership:

Paramount Pictures consistently delivers top-quality, highly entertaining films that audiences love to see in IMAX, and with these new titles, we believe our 2011 lineup is on its way to becoming the most robust slate we’ve ever had. Our growing worldwide network will enable even more movie fans to experience their favorite films in the best possible way.

I think this is interesting news considering there has been some talk about how audiences are not really interested in paying a whole lot more money to see 3D films and it’s not doing a whole lot of good for Hollywood. To me this is just another way Hollywood can’t really connect with their paying customers.
